Art: 'Southwest Façade, Main House, Olana', (1870) This 1870 drawing by Frederic Edwin Church depicts the southwest façade of Olana, his home and studio overlooking the Hudson River near Hudson, New York. Executed in ink, pencil, and watercolor, the work is one of several architectural renderings Church made while designing Olana in collaboration with Calvert Vaux, the British-born landscape architect who had earlier co-designed Central Park.
Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900) was a leading American landscape painter of the Hudson River School, celebrated for his monumental, light-filled depictions of natural wonders—from the Andes to the Arctic—that combined scientific observation with Romantic grandeur.
John Derian decoupage: is collaged paper under handblown glass in his studio in New York City, where he employs a small staff of artisans to assist with production.
