Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) opened his own studio in 1954 and went on to design celebrated pieces for many of the noted Danish mid-century manufacturers. This Model 214 lounge chair in a gorgeous black leather is characterized by sweeping curves, a deep reclining seat, mini-wings and sculptural armrests - a prime example of Wikkelsø’s skill in balancing comfort with expressive modernism. Four-star chromed steel base with matching ottoman. Produced by Mikael Laursen, Silkeborg. Denmark, 1960s.
