German born Robert Wengler moved to Denmark in 1880. He established a workshop in Copenhagen and became Denmark’s leading rattan and wicker furniture specialist, often called the “King of Rattan". This garden chair is Model "Canton" - honoring the example brought to Denmark from China by Kay Fisker. It combines Chinese-inspired forms with Wengler’s mastery of rattan weaving and bentwood construction. Designed between 1902-1905 - with later production by Sika-Design, Denmark.
