1930S ITALIAN
pair of Modernist / Rationalist beechwood slipper chairs
pair of Modernist / Rationalist beechwood slipper chairs
This striking pair of low slipper chairs are a very good expression of the Italian transition from 1920s Art Deco - with a stripping away of ornament under Rationalist influences. They are remarkably architectural with a simple plane (single arched & solid back) against a box (the seat and leg frame supporting an oversized upholstered seat). Proportion and geometry at its best in furniture design. Produced in stained solid beechwood c1938-1945, Italy.
