C1900 MOROCCO
Maghrebi micro-marquetry salon set of Five, FEZ
Maghrebi micro-marquetry salon set of Five, FEZ
Created within Morocco's centuries-old Maghrebi woodworking tradition, this c1895-1915 salon set reflects a decorative history first developed for the imperial cities of Fez, Marrakech, and Meknes, where master craftsmen translated the geometric language of royal architecture into finely crafted furniture. Not a painted decoration - instead individual cut veneers, bone, mother-of-pearl, stained fruitwoods and ebony each individually assembled and labor intensive. Primarily cedar construction - each piece with a classic North African curved gallery form. Available as a set - will separate pairs of chairs upon request.
