solid oakwood Empire bench w/intasia and upholstery
solid oakwood Empire bench w/intasia and upholstery
An impressive 19th-century Empire-style sofa bench in dark-polished oak, with precise architectural construction and restrained geometric intarsia. A 68" length makes this perfect for a hallway or end of a bed. A wide top rail to the back with decorative detail is repeated in the flat panel front legs containing a fan ornament, swags, geometric stringing and architectural framing. The open back is composed of slender vertical spindles arranged in groups - with pointed central legs. A very interesting display of the Neoclassical in Empire furniture. Unknown manufacture - likely Northern European.
