teak, beech & brass "Portex"armchair, Fritz Hansen
teak, beech & brass "Portex"armchair, Fritz Hansen
Designed in 1944–45 by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Fritz Hansen, the Portex armchair is an inventive early example of Danish modern furniture developed with international production and distribution in mind. Its construction conceals an ingenious stacking design. Slender brass rods support the beautifully shaped beechwood armrests, creating an unusually open silhouette, while the gently curved teakwood seat and back are framed by tapered legs and rounded uprights. Manufactured by Fritz Hansen, Denmark. 1944 design with production through 1955. Marked Portex. 1940s
