Model 500 black leather & steel lounge chair, Denmark
Model 500 black leather & steel lounge chair, Denmark
Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) was a Danish furniture designer who trained as a cabinetmaker, graduating in 1940, before continuing his design education and establishing his own practice in Aarhus. The Model 500 lounge chair has substantial proportions - combining generously patinated black leather upholstery with an unusually expressive exposed steel structure. Designed for comfort but unapologetically architectural in its construction. Produced by Aarhus Polstrermøbelfabrik, c. 1970s.
