restored Gijs van der Sluis Model 36 armchair
Gijs van der Sluis was a Dutch mid-century furniture designer and manufacturer who helped define post-war Dutch modernism, particularly in furniture using metal frames and industrial production methods. His Model 36 chair is his most famous - constructed in a blackened square-tube steel frame and usually offered with an upholstered seat and back. This version (we have three) was later updated to a natural corded jute wrapped to the wood seating. 1960s Netherlands.
