late Gustavian chest of drawers w/intarsia and brass
The early 1800 in design period Sweden continued the classical tradition of Gustavian furniture that blended the elegance of French Neoclassicism with Swedish restraint. This three drawer chest has a square construction of stained birch to imitate mahogany with block feet and beveled top. Probably a Småland provincial work which is less refined - but certainly striking. Each drawer with central star and surrounding trim in a contrasting light birch (or pear wood) with contrasting dark walnut - and retaining its original brass wreath-form ring pulls with ribbon cresting. Key included.
