LATE 1960S EUROPEAN
four-part woven rush over ash wood long bench
four-part woven rush over ash wood long bench
A very well executed long bench with European origin - could be Italian - but probably a classic interpretation. Simple square form using solid Ash wood with six legs to stabilize its size. What makes this interesting is the handwoven seat which employs a traditional four-way diamond weave of braided rush, a basketry technique with centuries-old roots in Mediterranean craft. A highly skilled presentation. Late 1960s or 1970s.
