1930S ITALIAN
rationalist walnut & tubular chrome desk, Milan
rationalist walnut & tubular chrome desk, Milan
A refined example of the 1930s Italian Rationalist design that emerged following engineering advancement in the 1920s. Radical for Italy in its day with the use of continuous chromed steel tubing as framing for the otherwise all wood (probably walnut) desk construction. Two sets of four drawers on each side and a top-central drawer - each with shaped metal pulls. Unclear as to designer - however it is likely that legendary Italian steel tubing manufacturer, Officine Meccaniche Columbus (Milan), provided the frame.
