19THC KARL JOHAN STYLE
neoclassical revival 51" upholstered settee
neoclassical revival 51" upholstered settee
This 19th-century settee, in the Karl Johan style (the Swedish interpretation of Empire design), reflects the restrained neoclassicism popular in Sweden between about 1810 and 1840, adapted here with a more provincial, late-century execution. Distinctive rounded armrests referencing the scrolls of Empire designs contrast with the blocky legs. Carved birch with an open pinewood back and striped upholstery. Recently updated in a beautiful pale blue velvet with back bolster.
