1907 EUGENIO QUARTI
small mahogany & fabric desk, Grand Hotel
small mahogany & fabric desk, Grand Hotel
Eugenio Quarti (1867–1929) was one of the most important figures of Italian Liberty (Art Nouveau) design - often highly decorative and known as a technical virtuoso. He also did celebrated commercial project including the new Grand Hotel in San Pellegrino in Terme north of Milan that opened in 1907. This writing desk, more understated than his typical work, was constructed in solid mahogany with square case, gently tapered legs and a lower stretcher for stability. Original leather top has been replaced over time with a cream durable textured fabric in very good condition. Italy, c1907.
