generous carved wood & rush bobbin bench
generous carved wood & rush bobbin bench
The construction of this bench is wonderfully eccentric. Four tall turned corner posts rise above a woven rush or seagrass seat to form a very abbreviated open back, joined by a simple flat splat. Below, the frame becomes much more decorative: multiple bobbin-turned stretchers run between the legs, creating almost a little cage beneath the woven seat. Original blackened detail evident. Unknown manufacture - in the English bobbin style.
