Combining his architect talents for both furniture and industrial design, Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) was a leading figure in the Italian modernist movement.  His building designs were often Rationalist - his furniture - a much freer expression of beauty.  This pair of armchairs are sumptuous in gold velvet upholstery.  Deep seating and a low back create a sleek silhouette that highlights the mini-wings. Exaggerated arching arms are polished maple wood that contrast with the linear dark-stained wood legs.  Original brass foot caps to the front legs.  Italy, 1940s. Attributed to Borsani.
