1940S MELCHIORRE BEGA
bergère armchair and footrest
bergère armchair and footrest
Though more typically viewed as a Scandinavian design from the 1950s - the Italian modernists like Gio Ponti and Melchiorre Bega actually produced stylish examples starting in the post-war landscape of the late 1940s. This Bega bergère example has the perfect Italian flair to the elongated back with classic mini-wings. Beautifully shaped beechwood arms and small conical legs at the front. Complimentary footstool (roughly 17" square), not originally part of the set.
