A first generation Bronx NY native whose family emigrated to the US from Germany in the late 19th century, Gilbert Rhode (1894-1944) was an early modernist proponent who helped usher in the modern age at Herman Miller. This desk is attributed to Rhode and has his classic use of circular knobs and beautifully shaped combination of right angles and rounded edges. Oakwood case with three left drawers and a single door case on the right. Price includes a refinish, now complete. Probably produced by Herman Miller.
