Giuseppe Pogatschnig (1896-1945) was born into the Austro-Hungarian empire (later Croatia) and attended architect school in Turin.  He was an avant guard rationalist designer, architect, photographer and influential Domas editor - who eventually resisted fascist Italy and died in a concentration camp.  This chair is attributed to his early design work while in Milan. this pair of mid-century armchairs have a unique wood-hoop arm supported by a carved wood base.  Seating is a beautiful corded and woven rope.  Organic and striking pair.  Likely Italian manufacture and attributed to Pagano - though not certified. Exceptional design.
