The French seemed to have fallen in love with elaborative carved oversized sideboards starting in the post-war 1940s - perhaps as exuberance took over the country. This classic example has such exceptional detail. A beautiful bright walnut sets the scene for color and grain pattern. Five panels have contrasting trim including outer doors with lattice etched fronts and offsetting root walnut decor. Hand carved floral and scroll components balance the large 75" length including a large central carved shield. Base has angled legs and inset plinth. Nice lathe work to the lower dowel as focal point. Just gorgeous dark rose quarts marble top. France 1940s.
